Salento is a land that must be discovered
and enjoyed in every its angle!
The geographical position of Salento, to the center of the Mediterranean,
has favoured in the centuries, the rotate and the integration of different
cultures, from that Greek to that Norman
or Turkish, that have left on the territory an invaluable cultural property.
Salento, boasts, besides, an innumerable quantity of archaeological sites,
some go back to the Neolithic and the Palaeolithic (the cave of Venus
of Parabita or that Romanelli of Castro), many of which still today can
be seen: travelling from Patù to Minervino or from Alezio to Vaste
can
be met Menhir, Dolmen or rests of prehistoric villages. Besides this,
one of the peculiarities of Salento is the variety and the oneness of
the historical centers of the 105 towns that compose the province of Lecce.
Every town has something to show, characteristic alleys, Romanesque
or Baroque churches, baronial palaces, castles and above all the characteristics
coastal Towers.
To visit: Lecce and its Baroque; the damp zones of
the Cesines and the Lakes Alimini; the Crypts and the rocky villages of
Cannole, Otranto and Vaste; the messapici centers of Alezio, Ugento and
Acaya; the Grecia Salentina (island linguistics where it still speaks
the archaic Greek or "Grico").
