The Florence of the South. In this way is called Lecce for the presence of numerous artistic-religious constructions in Baroque style, put in a particularly suggestive and rich historical centre of small activities of craftsmanship, specialized especially in the manufacture paper-mâché and the stone of Lecce manufacture. Just the use of this stone material makes the Baroque of Lecce so fascinating. The stone of Lecce, in fact, has a very particular colour and having a calcareous origin is particularly ductile and easy to be carved, making so the façades of the palaces and of the Churches of Lecce unique and unmistakable in the Italian artistic panorama.
