CASTRO
Castro is, perhaps, among the
most suggestive places of Salento. Its coast
and its small historical centre have,
an unbelievable charm, in fact the coast road that connects Castro
to Leuca and Santa Cesarea is considered among the most beautiful roads
in Europe, often location also of advertising
spot. Castro is also known for its sea caves, among which that of the
Cervi that has revolutionized the world archaeological theories with
its rocky paintings.
To visit:
a sixteenth-century manor-house, the fortified towers of the ancient
Roman camp (from which the name "Castro"), the Byzantine cathedral,
the "Cave Romanelli" and the
formations stalactitic and stalagmitic of the "Cave
Zinzulusa."
